How big should the string on a parachute be for a water rocket?

I am doing this project for school, and I don’t know how long the string should be that supports the rocket. And also, how do I attach the cone to the rocket, so that it falls of at the right time, but doesn’t fall of right when it is launched?

One rule of thumb in model rocketry is to make the shroud lines as long as the parachute is wide.

You can use a mechanical time to control when the parachute deploys. Electronic ones are available, too.

The nose should easily hold in place. Unlike model rockets, nose cone deployment may not be practical. You don’t have the same “oomph” to pop the nose like you would with a black power charge.

Instead you may want to try something like side-deployment. You let the rocket open up a side panel and let the parachute fall out.

I have to make a design on google sketch up 7 for a water bottle rocket that launches 600 ft in the air and crashes to earth, but, there is an egg inside. Any design ideas?
