Are the marines in my novel too similar to the ODSTs in Halo?
I’m writing a novel about a fictional war in the future in space and the marines in my novel all wear atmospherically sealed armor that allows them to survive in space and under water. They also have tinted faceplates that completely obscure their face. There are a few other features, but I won’t bore you with them. Anyway, are my marines too similar to the ODSTs in the Halo games. Keep in mind that these aren’t just a few marines that look like this. It’s standard issue so every single marine in my novel, even those fresh out of training, all wear this armor.
ODST were a special ops team if your whole army is suited up in this armor then its no big deal. they don’t have ownership of armor, as long as you call it something else, plus theirs i dont think were atmospherically sealed, which is cool by the way.

I asked this question last week but I don’t think I phrased the question properly so here we go again:

They also have tinted faceplates that completely obscure their face. There are a few other features, but I won’t bore you with them. I know there’s no copyright infringement, but if you were to read about my marines would you think of something that you have never seen before, or would you think “Hey, this guy is just ripping off Halo’s ODSTs.”?
From just reading your question– and nothing else– I would guess that your Marines are probably a lot like those in Halo only because once a Marine goes through basic training, they all become, in essence, one. They have to in order to become a cohesive fighting unit. The only way you could make them unique in literature is to take liberties with the process of Camp LeJeune. Unfortunately, making room for misfits in the service of one’s country (or planet) has also been done before in books and movies (especially movies). Reading further, your use of technology helps differentiate your Marines from Halo’s, but not by much. Your call.
