Float level switch for in home a/c unit?
my a/c unit is in my attic. i am told i need a float level switch installed in the drain pa. it supposedly is a switch that shuts the unit off when it detects some or too much water in the drian pain. can anyone send me a link to one or explain exaclty i suppse to hard wire it in. thanks
Too much water is the problem. Forget the switch, just check the drain hose once a month (if you are the anal type) or 2 times a season. As long as the drain is clear, there won’t be too much water. If there is too much water, then clear the drain, ( that is what you will have to do if the installed switch shuts down the unit).

Switch to Cold Water When Washing Clothes – Save Energy and Money
Are you using hot water to wash your clothes? If so I would like to point out that 85 % of the energy you use to complete this chore is going toward heating the water? Now some or maybe even most may already be aware of this but did you know that you don’t need to use any hot water to effectively wash clothes?
As long as you are using a cold water detergent you can actually go ahead and turn the hot water to your washer completely off. Now when I say “cold water detergent” I’m not talking about some of these new detergents that advertise as being specifically for cold water washing, these can cost up to double the regular price and we’re trying to save money here not spend more. In my experience all you really need is a liquid detergent instead of powder, every brand that I have used has worked just fine.
Now I can speak from my own personal experience and tell you that I have been doing this for years and have yet to see a difference between using hot and cold water. My stains come out and in the end that is the only real goal. My only question is, why wouldn’t you follow this tip now that you know you can get the same results and save money at the same time?
You should also be aware of the water level setting before starting your washer and be sure it is set to the correct level. Using more water than necessary is a very common waste. There is obviously no point in using more water than needed so by being conscious of the washer’s water level you will easily save money on your water and sewage bill as well.

How to connect Solenoid Valve to water Level Switch?
I have a solenoid valve just like this http://www.globalspec.com/ImageRepository/ProductAreaImages/2007/4/903/large.jpg and its rated 120 VAC/26VA (3 prongs, one for ground) . I also have a horizontal level switch for liquid like this http://germes-online.com/direct/dbimage/50279527/Level_Switch.jpg with rating 120 VAC/0.28 A (the switch will connect when the water level reach the target) normally open.
How can I wire them so that when the level reached the valve will close and water will not flow into the tank? The switch is inside the tank and the valve connecting the pipe for feed water. Thanks
If the valve opens when power is applied, the connection is easy. Connect one wire from the switch to the black (hot) wire of a 120 VAC power cord. Connect the other switch wire to one non-ground prong of the solenoid. Connect the white (neutral) power cord wire to the other non-ground prong of the solenoid. Connect the green (ground) wire of the power cord to the ground prong of the solenoid.
If the valve closes when power is applied, get a float switch that disconnects when the water level reaches the target.
If you can’t change the switch, you need a 120 VAC relay. Wire the relay as described in paragraph 1. The relay needs to have a contact that opens when power is applied. Wire that contact to the solenoid in the manner described in paragraph 1.
