whats the percentage of non-potable water usage in an office building?
i wanna find information like a pie chart kind of thing, that says how much water an office building uses typically….. if better, in the tropics, or where heating is not required. thanks.
Sorry for the lack of details, I meant what is the percentage of non-potable water used in an office building in everyday activities like toilet, cafeteria. gardens, cooling…. out of the total water consumption of the building.
In the US, all water comes into most buildings in potable form.
Water in the sprinkler system commonly has rust inhibitors added, so it becomes non-potable. Water in air conditioning sometimes has antibacterials added, so can also become non-potable.
Water for watering lawns and flushing toilets is potable just about everywhere, but doesn’t need to be.

Can a Gas Meter Show More Than Actual Usage?
My gas bills are through the roof and my usage is off the charts, according to the bill. Last month, I didn’t use any heat, the hot water heater is on “warm” and I don’t cook very much, yet I’m using $400 per month in gas. I have inspected my gas lines in the house for leaks and none found. I cannot smell gas anywhere and my sense of smell is very good.
I called the gas company to ask if meters ever registered more than actual usage and she said that was impossible. She said they can show less usage, or no usage, but never more than actual usage. I asked in the entire history of the gas company, there has never been an instance of a meter showing more than actual usage and she said “No, gas meters have never shown more than actual usage…it is impossible.” I’m afraid the gas company will simply remove my meter and require new pipes and appliances before restoring service, so I just pay the bill.
Is it truly impossible for a gas meter to show more than actual usage?
The gas company is correct in that gas meters almost always tend to show less rather than more gas usage. This is based on the way they are made and operate. What happens is called “slippage” which refers to gas that slips past the meter as it is being measured.
A more likely occurance is an incorrect reading of the meter or a large increase in the price of natural gas. They may have also skipped reading you meter for a while and used estimates and now are catching up on the actual usage.
